How to Measure

There are quite a few things that need measuring in different ways in the shop. Here is a quick guide, but if you have any problems, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Dog collars

Hound collars

These are traditionally worn quite high on the neck as hounds necks tend to be as wide as their heads. To measure, take a soft tape measure and take a measurement at the top of the dog's neck but allow two fingers, side by side under the tape measure. Order this measurement. If you are ordering a padded collar, we will make adjustments to allow for the padding. Alternatively, measure a well fitting collar from the middle of the buckle to the hole used. The measured hole will be in the middle of the strap so you will have adjustment either way. Please contact us if you have a young dog so we can allow a bit of 'growing room'.

Straight dog collars

Take a soft tape measure and take a measurement around where the collar comfortably sits. Slip two fingers, side by side, under it and take a firm measurement. Consider if your dog has a thick coat or fine coat. Alternately measure a well fitting collar from the middle of the buckle to the hole used. If you use a collar with a plastic buckle that snaps together, measure the part of the buckle the meet when snapped together, not the extra piece that slots in. The measured hole will be in the middle of the strap so you will have adjustment either way. Please contact us if you have a young dog so we can allow a bit of 'growing room'.

Horse Items

Reins

The measurement to take is one rein with the billet done up to the buckle/hole. Consider if you need a bit of extra length or maybe think you need reins a bit shorter, order the closet measurement accordingly.

Browbands

Measure a well fitting browband from end of leather to end of leather. The loops on our browbands fit headpieces that are approximately 1" wide, if your bridle has a different size, please contact us.

Cheek Pieces

Measure your cheek pieces with the billets done up from end of leather to end of buckle and order accordingly.

Bespoke items

Please contact us for instructions for measurements.

Belts

Please do not order clothes size. Either measure an existing belt worn over the garments that you want to pair new belt with, flat out, measure from turn of leather on the buckle to hole used. Or measure over the top of garments when being worn. If you are unable to do any of above, order 2" bigger than clothes size.

When trying your new belt on, thread through the keepers to check for size. This means that the leather will not be creased, making it easier for refund if you need to return the belt for another size.
