Product Care

It is very important to look after your leather products. Leather is a skin that has gone through tanning treatments for use. To keep leather supple, it must be 'moisturised'. Just think if your hands get dry, you would put on hand cream to prevent them cracking, that is exactly what you need to do with leather to give your product longevity. When bridle leather is new, it needs to be 'fed' quite a bit, with a leather conditioner. We recommend Fiebing's Aussie Leather Conditioner, although there are other good brands on the market (your local saddlery can advise you). This will help to keep the leather supple. Avoid using the old style leather saddle soap, as this can strip the colour from the leather.

To look after your product, firstly clean off any dirt and grease with warm water and a sponge or cloth, don't rub too hard. Allow to dry naturally, then apply leather conditioner as directed by the product information.

If your product gets wet, allow to dry naturally first before following instructions above. If your product gets wet with sea water, try to remove some of the salt with a damp sponge or cloth before allowing to dry as the salt can dry the leather out and it may crack.

ALWAYS ALLOW PRODUCT TO DRY NATURALLY AND NOT ON HEAT SUCH AS A RADIATOR

Using heat will make the leather crack.

DO NOT WASH YOUR LEATHER PRODUCT IN A WASHING MACHINE

The leather used in our products are not suitable to be cleaned this way.

If you have a product that has suede on it, a soft brush should used to clean, but avoid getting any leather conditioner on the suede.

Brass hardware will dull over time, but can be cleaned using a metal cleaner suitable for brass. Avoid getting any on the leather, but clean off immediately, if you do.

Check the fittings and stitching of your product regularly for safety. We can replace any worn fittings and re stitch items on request for a charge, but only if we consider the leather is still safe to do so. Please contact us for rough cost.
